Triple Detox: How to Free Your Mind from Yourself?

Relationship Detox & Leadership
Raw, real, and faith-filled—this article explores what detox really means: body, mind, and spirit healing through holy resilience and honest leadership.Detox isn’t always about green juice and spa days. Sometimes, it looks like leadership—real leadership—at 2 a.m., eating peanut butter and honey on wheat bread, trying not to pass out from a panic attack because your nervous system’s short-circuiting on caffeine, cortisol, and pure chaos. So, let’s talk about that kind of leadership—the kind where your body is detoxing from burnout, your mind is rewiring from trauma, and your spirit is white-knuckling a lifeline to Jesus.Because I’ve been walking that valley the last two weeks. And hear me now: This is the deepest kind of deliverance.

Detox isn’t always about green juice and spa days.
Sometimes, it looks like leadership—real leadership—at 2 a.m., eating peanut butter and honey on wheat bread, trying not to pass out from a panic attack because your nervous system’s short-circuiting on caffeine, cortisol, and pure chaos.

So, let’s talk about that kind of leadership—the kind where your body is detoxing from burnout, your mind is rewiring from trauma, and your spirit is white-knuckling a lifeline to Jesus.

Because I’ve been walking that valley the last two weeks.
And hear me now:
This is the deepest kind of deliverance.

The Holy Detox Trifecta: Body, Mind, and Spirit Say “Enough”

First, two weeks ago, I stepped into obedience.
Not the cute Instagram kind.
No, it was the ugly-cry-on-the-bathroom-floor kind.

As a result, here’s the rundown of my personal triple detox:

  • Body detox: I tapered off long-term ADHD meds that were also controlling my fibro pain. Neurochemical whiplash? Absolutely.
  • Nicotine detox: I dropped cigarettes cold turkey after cutting way down.
  • Emotional detox: I ended a soul-draining, trauma-bonded relationship cycle that had me hooked on oxytocin highs and crash-and-burn lows.

Then, to top it all off like icing on a steak, Mother Nature brought my period just in time for the hormone rollercoaster finale. Cortisol, PMS, and grief walked in like they owned the place.

No numbing.
Zero nicotine.
No more neuroenhancers.
Just Jesus, self-compassion, and a whole lotta white tea.

Welcome to the Detox War Room Inside Your Ribcage

Let me say this plainly: detoxing from substances, trauma, and hormones at the same time is like running a peace summit during an airstrike—with no sleep and all your past wounds screaming for attention. This is not recommended without support, nor is it medical advice… and it should not replace therapy. I just happened to be able to sign my own consent form.

In other words, this wasn’t just a“healthy habits” reboot.
No, this was war.

Then, biochemical chaos set in: dopamine withdrawal, serotonin dips, oxytocin crashes.
On top of that, spiritual warfare raged: soul ties snapping like brittle twine.
And, emotional upheaval flared: childhood pain burning like a bad sunburn.

Caffeine and cortisol? They weren’t helping.
Actually, they were the hype girls of havoc.
Thus, I had to evict the whole crew.

However, here’s the truth:

“I will give you a new heart, and put a new spirit within you.”
— Ezekiel 36:26 (NRSV)

And He did. Is doing. Will keep doing.

From Chemical Detox to Covenant: What Helped Me Regulate

Furthermore, the Lord didn’t leave me alone in the rubble.
Instead, He handed me tools—both spiritual and scientific.
Consequently, here’s what actually helped:

🫖 White Tea Over Coffee
Gentle on the adrenals. No crash. Just enough caffeine to keep me from face-planting in the laundry basket.

🍯 Grounding Snacks for Panic Attacks
Try this combo:

  • Peanut butter
  • Raw honey
  • Wheat bread
  • A small cup of 2% milk

Why did it work? Fat + protein + slow carbs = blood sugar stability + serotonin support.

🙏 Holy Habits That Helped Me Breathe

  • Screaming FREEDOM! into my pillow. (Therapy).
  • Also, I had a good support system.
  • And, I journaled with the OIDR method:
    • Observe the thought.
    • Identify the emotion.
    • Dispute the lie.
    • Replace with truth.

Internal body signals you’ve reached truth include lowering of chronic cortisol, tension leaving the body, and a release in your heart, mind, and spirit.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds…”
— Romans 12:2 (NRSV)

Detoxing From Lies: Self-Leadership When You Feel Like a Mess

Real leadership is holy regulation.
It’s not a position—it’s a posture.
Sometimes, it’s parenting your inner toddler while showing up to life like a grown adult.

Accordingly, here’s what it looked like in real time:

  • I wanted to ghost. Instead, I stayed present.
  • I wanted to scream. Instead, I breathed and prayed.
  • I wanted to isolate. Instead, I opened up to safe people.

Therefore, this is what real detox requires—emotional discipline birthed in grace.

And when I failed?
I didn’t shame myself.
Rather, I started again.

Trauma Response ≠ Character Flaw

Let’s break this down with a little clarity and compassion:

  • Fight? Crying in the car after the meeting = strength, not shame.
  • Flight? Not answering texts for three days = survival, not selfishness.
  • Freeze? Staring at your to-do list = executive function on pause, not laziness.
  • Fawn? Over-apologizing = coping, not cowardice.
  • Fright? “Playing possum” but not actually playing—freezing in the face of sudden dread or panic in safe situations = trauma response, not weakness.

Therefore, you’re not dramatic.
Instead, you’re detoxing and healing.

“The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
— Psalm 145:8 (NRSV)

A Kingdom Kind of Chemistry: How God Designed Detox

Your body isn’t the enemy—it’s the battleground.
Moreover, God wired it with trinitarian brilliance:

  • Dopamine = focus and drive
  • Serotonin = peace and stability
  • Oxytocin = connection and love

Meanwhile, the enemy targets these neurochemicals.
However, the world numbs them.
Yet, the Kingdom heals them.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.”
— Psalm 51:10 (NRSV)

Holy Detox and Honest Leadership Go Hand in Hand

I’m not writing this from a place of perfection.
Instead, I’m writing from the middle of the mess—mid-detox, mid-deliverance, mid-“I-don’t-know-what-I’m-doing.”

Nevertheless, I’m showing up.
And when my nervous system wants to throw a tantrum, I pause.
Moreover, I invite the Holy Spirit in.
Then, I whisper to my soul:

“You’re safe now. Let’s try again.”

Reflection Questions for Your Detox Journey

Accordingly, take a few moments and ask yourself:

  • What am I detoxing from—physically, emotionally, spiritually?
  • Which lies am I ready to dispute and replace with truth?
  • What practices help me regulate instead of react?
  • How do I lead with honesty while I’m still healing?

Ultimately, you don’t need all the answers.
Instead, you just need to keep walking.

Final Benediction: For the Overcomers in the Valley

To every trauma survivor in leadership,
To every cycle-breaker battling shame and sugar withdrawals,
And, to every heart detoxing from toxicity:

You are not weak.
Rather, you are wise.
You are war-tested.
You are walking in resurrection power every time you choose gentleness over fear, presence over panic, truth over trauma.

Hence, that’s real leadership.
It’s sacred.
Additionally, it’s sweaty.
And it’s saving lives—starting with yours.

“You are more than a conqueror.”
— Romans 8:37 (Y’ALL version)

For the record: I’m going on three weeks fibromyalgia FREE. So, I thought the doctors said it was permanent, chronic, and lifelong? Because it’s gone.
