Family is not just a human idea. In fact, it is the blueprint of the divine. From Genesis to Jesus, God’s story repeatedly shows relationship, restoration, and belonging.

Moreover, healing after toxic relationships does not happen alone. Instead, it grows in community. Likewise, it happens through connection. And yes—even in the middle of the mess.

This post not only explores divine design but also gives practical guidance. Additionally, it shows how the Trinity models a healing family. Finally, it explains how faith, truth, and small intentional steps can gradually turn pain into lasting wholeness.

🌿 The Nature of God: A Relational Trinity

We believe in one God—YHWH (יהוה, “I AM”)—who is eternal, unchanging, all-powerful, and all-knowing (Genesis 1:1; Malachi 3:6). God exists as three coequal, co-eternal persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

It is not three separate gods. And it is definitely not “one being pretending to be three people.” Instead, it is a divine family. Complicated? Yes. But so is every human family that has ever had group texts, shared trauma, and Thanksgiving dinner.

This relational Trinity shows up all around us. At Wind Haven, we call it the OIDR Healing Trinity:

  • Observe – Notice what is happening in your thoughts, body, and feelings.
  • Identify – Name the belief, emotion, or wound.
  • Dispute – Challenge lies, fears, and false beliefs.
  • Replace – Build new patterns rooted in love, truth, and grace.

Jesus modeled this perfectly. He saw people, spoke truth, broke lies, and replaced despair with hope. Healing is not a straight line. Sanctification does not always smell like roses. It smells like spiritual sweat, tears, and yes, sometimes emotional flatulence when strongholds break.

Even our human design mirrors this Trinity: body, mind, and spirit. Ethos (who we are), pathos (how we feel), and logos (what we believe). Brain chemistry also joins the party—dopamine for reward, serotonin for peace, oxytocin for connection. God built humans to feel, follow, and metaphorically fart out falsehoods with every step toward freedom.

🕊️ The Family at the Heart of God

“Let’s make humans in our image… male and female we made them.” — Genesis 1:2627

First, trying to explain the Trinity can feel impossible. Honestly, it’s like trying to herd blindfolded cats. People use water analogies, eggs, or even three-leaf clovers. Yet, all of these fall short.

However, God is not three guys in a trench coat. Instead, they are a family. And this family lives in perfect love and harmony.

For example:

  • The Father – creates, provides, and blesses.
  • The Son – reveals, redeems, and restores.
  • The Spirit – nurtures, comforts, and empowers.

Together, they show balance. They mix authority, compassion, and connection. In fact, this is the original model of family. Consequently, it shows holy wholeness: love without control, guidance without manipulation, presence without domination.

💞 The Feminine Face of the Holy Spirit

The Hebrew word for Spirit, ruach, is feminine. Likewise, in Greek, pneuma carries life-giving energy. Therefore, God’s Spirit has always included the feminine. In fact, they are nurturing, protective, and fiercely loving.

For example, Scripture shows the Spirit acting like a divine mama bear:

  • Comforting children (Isaiah 66:13)
  • Hovering over creation (Genesis 1:2)
  • Birthing new life (John 3:5–8)

Moreover, Wisdom (chokmah) in Proverbs is also feminine. Wisdom calls, teaches, and protects. Later, in the New Testament, that same Wisdom appears as the Holy Spirit. Consequently, the Spirit brings love and redemption into human hearts.

🔑 The Secret of Healing

Healing after toxic relationships is possible. In fact, it is already unfolding within you. Often, pain and self-doubt cloud your vision. As a result, it can be hard to see your true worth. However, faith, guidance, and small intentional steps can light the path to wholeness.

First, the secret begins with truth. Toxic relationships often distort your sense of self. For example, words spoken in anger or manipulation can plant harmful beliefs. Fortunately, truth restores what lies beneath: your natural and inherent worth.

Next, faith plays a central role. As Jesus taught, faith can move mountains and heal wounded hearts. Additionally, healing is easier with guidance. For instance, a counselor, spiritual advisor, or healing community can offer insight, support, and clarity along the journey.

🧠 Healing the Mind

The mind often carries many wounds after abuse. In fact, toxic patterns can plant fear and a sense of unworthiness. As a result, these thoughts can grow like weeds, choking out the light of truth.

First, observe and identify limiting beliefs. Notice recurring thoughts. For example, ask yourself, “What do I believe about myself?” or “Who does God say I am?” These questions help reveal hidden beliefs.

Next, dispute and replace harmful beliefs. Challenge thoughts like “I’m unworthy of love” with truth. Then, replace them with affirmations rooted in divine wisdom. For instance, say, “I am loved and deserving of kindness.” Likewise, faith can calm the storms of your mind—just as Jesus calmed the sea.

💪 Healing the Body

Abuse also affects the body. Stress, tension, and neglect leave marks that mirror emotional wounds.

First, observe and care for your body. Notice areas of tension, fatigue, or neglect. For example, pay attention to your shoulders, sleep patterns, or energy levels. Counselors or healing advisors can guide you in awareness and practical care.

Next, replace old habits with nurturing ones. Add healthy movement, rest, and nourishing food. Start with small steps, like walking outside or eating balanced meals. In addition, healing advisors offer support and accountability as you make these changes.

✨ Healing the Spirit

The spirit often carries deep wounds. Shame, anger, and hopelessness weigh it down.

First, observe and release spiritual wounds. Notice where your spirit feels heavy. Identify burdens like resentment, guilt, or self-blame. Then, release them through guidance, prayer, or reflection.

Next, replace pain with self-compassion. Affirm simple truths, like: “I am worthy of peace.” In addition, daily practices such as prayer, journaling, or meditation help nourish your spirit. Furthermore, healing communities provide support and reinforce these truths in a safe, compassionate space.

🌿 OIDR Healing Trinity in Action

Wind Haven’s OIDR method brings mind, body, and spirit together. First, it helps you notice harmful patterns. Next, it guides you to challenge them. Then, it shows you how to change them for good.

Step 1: Observe – Pay attention without judgment. For example, notice your thoughts, feelings, or body sensations.

Step 2: Identify – Name the belief, emotion, or wound. In other words, get clear on what is affecting you.

Step 3: Dispute – Challenge lies with faith, truth, or evidence. For instance, question thoughts like “I’m not enough.”

Step 4: Replace – Affirm a new belief or practice a positive habit. Finally, put truth into action.

Example: “I’ll never heal.”

  • Observe: Notice the thought.
  • Identify: Find its source—fear or past pain.
  • Dispute: Recall past victories or evidence against this lie.
  • Replace: Say to yourself, “Healing is a journey, and I am making progress.”

By following these steps, you gradually transform old patterns into new, life-giving habits. As a result, healing becomes possible and sustainable.

🌿 The Family Dance of Divine Love

The Trinity is like a family dance.

First, the Source loves. Then, the Word responds. Finally, the Breath unites.

This dance is called perichoresis. In other words, every step, turn, and movement shows connection and love. Moreover, humans are invited to join. As a result, we walk toward wholeness with the divine family.

Healing and relationships are often messy. For example, tears, venting, and sobs happen. Also, other bodily expressions may appear. However, the Spirit that hovered over creation can handle the chaos, smells, and all. So, first, exhale. Next, release. Finally, breathe in grace.

🌈 Why Family Matters

Seeing the Trinity as family changes everything:

  • First, authority flows from love, not control.
  • Next, masculine and feminine reflect God’s design.
  • Then, community, not isolation, brings wholeness.

God is not a cranky figure in the clouds. Rather, this is a living relationship. A divine family that welcomes everyone home.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, Wisdom of God, breathe on us again. Teach us to love like You love—to bring healing, nurture, and truth to the world around us. Let us reflect the family heart of God wherever we go. Amen.
